A Parklands Inspired Development
on Land North and East of
Blandford Forum
Vision & Framework

The overall vision of the scheme is to create a destination, a parkland neighbourhood, shaped and connected to the town and countryside.

In the most recent updated scheme, the consultant team were asked by the council to give greater clarity over the overall design concept and vision for the scheme.

We have therefore done a lot of work defining the vision for the site. Given the extent of the green nature of the site and the proposed tree lined roads, the concept of a 'parkland' development connecting to the town and countryside became the focus. The aim is to deliver a living landscape of accessible green spaces, high quality homes and new facilities set within an enriched natural environment.

The vision for 'Blandford Parklands' is underpinned by three interlinking theme objectives of:

-
Community
-
Connected
-
Nature

Community

Focusses on the provision of community facilities, a potential new school, the local centre, the allotments and the park etc. Having all these facilities close by builds a sense of community across the area and increases the interaction with existing residents in the north of Blandford.

Connected

Focusses on making sure aspects of the proposals are integrated and permeable, to ensure people can get around the scheme and make connections. Also it is important that the new development feels connected as a place, that it has an identity and belongs part of a connected overall area.

Nature
Focusses on the green elements of the proposals. The green infrastructure has been strengthened through new belts of trees, the new parks, the country park and even the new proposed allotments which will create an important green focus to the plans.

Framework Masterplan
We combined the three interlinking theme objectives detailed above, Community, Connected and Nature, with the key strategic and physical aspects of the site to form an integrated framework Masterplan.
